Special education is a program designed for children with special needs i.e. children whose overall development in terms of physical, cognitive and cognitive skills have delayed and have placed them behind their peer group. Traditional classroom environment does not suffice to cater with the requirements of children with special needs therefore special education is specially designed instruction, support and services meeting the requirements of individual child to meet their unique learning needs.
All activities within the day programme work towards goals set out in each child’s Individualized Education Programme (IEP). Activities are designed to work on communication goals, whether they be receptive or expressive, verbal or non-verbal, social skills, motor skills, behaviour goals, and independence, at levels appropriate for each child.
In Upkar Speech Therapy Hearing clinic is available for every child depending upon the individual needs. The school focuses on the overall development of every child attending the school. Every child attending the school is evaluated under special education process and separate file is maintained for each of them. This evaluation includes assessment of the child in all areas related to the suspected disability. The evaluation result thus is used to decide the child’s eligibility for special education and related services and decisions about appropriate educational program for the child.
What Is The Role Of A Special Educator?There are roles which are specific to special educators which includes:
Instruction and support which facilitates the participation of students with disabilities in the regular classroom.
Severe as manager and be responsible for development ,evaluation and implementation of children with special needs.
Make individualized plan for every child. Provide necessary information to the teachers regarding needs of the child when sent to normal classroom.
Develop plan and schedules according to child’s need.
Should supervise para professionals.
